Worldwide Spies Leap Forward — 31 May 2025
Paint jobs, new GUIs, race placements, and fan-favorite racers in the live alpha.
Leap Forward is the 31 May 2025 patch that still defines how Worldwide Spies looks and scores on a typical night. Team Chrome HQ shipped it to the live alpha, not to a closed branch. If you last played in 2024, this is why the menus, the garage, and the finish-line UI feel like a different game. The studio’s own blurb was short: paint jobs, redesigned GUIs, race placements, fan-favorite characters, and “so, so much more.” This page unpacks those four named pillars. Livery collections and event jobs are catalogued on the Paint Jobs Guide. Group gifts still sit on Team Chrome Rewards.
The place stayed free, 20-player, and playable. Leap Forward did not “open” Worldwide Spies; the experience has been up since 25 April 2021. It did change how you pick a livery, how you read a result, and who sits in the roster beside Lightning, Mater, Finn, and Francesco.
Paint jobs
Before Leap Forward, most players treated each racer as a single body. The patch put paint jobs on the character as selectable liveries. That matters for three reasons:
- Identity moved from “which car” to “which car in which job.” A McQueen in Rookie paint is not the same screenshot as a later All-American job.
- Event paints could be gated without inventing a new chassis. July 2026’s time-limited All-American McQueen and Rod Redline Star and Stripe only make sense because the paint system already existed.
- GUI work had to expose a paint submenu. If you cannot find jobs after a rejoin, you are in the wrong panel, not missing a code. There are still no confirmed promo codes; see the Promo Codes Hub.
Paints are cosmetics. They do not auto-win Anniversary VS races. They do not replace New Agent Clearance. Equip them in the garage after the world loads, not during the countdown. For which jobs are permanent versus event-only, use the Paint Jobs Guide rather than this patch recap.
If a livery disappeared after a later GUI tweak, rejoin and re-select it. Alpha UI passes have moved buttons. Missing July 2026 event jobs are not a bug if you never owned them during the window.
Redesigned GUIs
Leap Forward rebuilt the chrome around the game: HUD, menus, and the way placements and paints are presented. Team Chrome has kept iterating (Mega Update previews show even denser map UI), but 31 May 2025 is the line where old YouTube HUDs stop matching your client.
Practical effects:
- Buttons you memorized from 2023 tutorials may sit under new icons.
- A Codes field still is not part of that redesign. Do not hunt for one because the shop looks busier. How to Redeem Codes exists for a future box, not a hidden Leap Forward widget.
- Mobile and controller layouts picked up cleaner hit targets. The Roblox description’s Haptics toggle (rumble and touch feedback) is a separate client setting, not a paint unlock.
If the menu is unreadable on a low-end device, lower Roblox graphics before you reach for a script. The Roblox Scripts Hub is blunt: speed hacks fight this chassis; FPS tools are the only universal inject that matches the problem.
Race placements
“Race placements” is the finish-order layer: you see who sat P1 through the back of the 20-player field. Combined with the later Anniversary Update VS wins, placements turned casual laps into something you can chase.
What placements are:
- A result screen and in-world readout of order.
- The feed that VS wins can count when you actually finish.
What they are not:
- A global Top 100 by themselves (that board arrived in April 2025, a month earlier, and still needs wins).
- A reason to grief the lobby with fly scripts. Desyncing your car does not write a better placement.
Drive the line, finish the lap, then screenshot the placement panel if you are collecting proof for Discord. Leaving the server before the UI commits is a good way to think you “got robbed.”
Fan-favorite characters
Leap Forward expanded the selectable roster with fan-favorite Cars universe racers on top of the core set the Roblox page already advertised (Lightning McQueen, Mater, Finn, Francesco, and more than 25 characters in total). The patch did not turn the game into a licensed Disney product. It stayed a Team Chrome fan experience with no GenAI assets.
Rookie McQueen is not a Leap Forward unlock. That Cars 1 look still comes from joining Team Chrome HQ and liking the game. New Agent Clearance still wants the first training level with Union Jack Finn and Racer Holley. Read Getting Started if you are unlocking the roster in order instead of staring at locked slots.
Character models continue to receive passes in Mega Update previews. If a racer looks sharper in a Twitter screenshot than in your live session, that is preview work, not a paint you missed.
How Leap Forward connects to later patches
- April 2025 Anniversary put VS wins and a global leaderboard on top of racing. Placements from Leap Forward are how you read a single race; the Anniversary board is how you read a career of them.
- July 2026 limited paints used the Leap Forward job system, then expired. They are historical, not a shop list.
- Mega Update previews (Black Forest two-route remaster, Paris in development, 4K textures, RS Speedway revitalization) sit on Mega Update Roadmap. Leap Forward is the live UI those maps will plug into.

Leap Forward is the reason Worldwide Spies feels like a garage plus a race, not a single body on a blank HUD. Equip a job, read your placement, pick a fan-favorite, and go. The alpha will keep moving the chrome; the 31 May 2025 pillars are the ones that already shipped.
