Controls and Driving

Worldwide Spies is a driving game first. Voice lines and spy dressing are flavor. If your inputs are late, Tokyo and London will punish you whether you are in Lightning McQueen or a limited event skin. This page is the control sheet for PC, console, and mobile, then the driving habits that make those binds useful. Pair it with How to Win Races once the buttons are automatic, and with Getting Started if you have not finished training yet.

The developers advertise analog controls on purpose. Digital WASD is on or off. A stick lets you feed 20% lock into a sweeper instead of 100% into a wall. If you own a controller, plug it in after New Agent Training. Keyboard remains valid; it is just less precise on Porto Corsa’s harbor turns and Black Forest’s two remastered routes.

PC keyboard

ActionKey
Steer and throttleWASD
TurboShift
HandbrakeSpace
CameraC
LightsL

W is forward, S is reverse or brake depending on speed, A and D are steering. There is no separate “drift button” beyond the handbrake. Do not bind turbo to a key you mash by accident; a misclicked Shift in a hairpin is a reset. Lights (L) help in tunnels, dusk London, and night sections. They do not add speed. Camera (C) cycles views so you can see an apex instead of your own roof.

Keyboard players should sit further from the desk than they think. Small A/D taps beat holding a direction until the car is already past the line. If your laptop trackpad fights the camera, ignore the mouse while racing and only use C.

Console controller

ActionButton
Steer and throttleStick
TurboX
HandbrakeB
CameraL1
LightsR1

The stick is the reason analog is recommended. Feather the throttle on corner entry, roll out of the handbrake, then squeeze turbo once the nose is pointed at the exit. X for turbo and B for handbrake sit on the face buttons so you can keep thumbs on the sticks. L1 camera and R1 lights are bumpers; you can tap them without lifting off steer. If your platform labels those bumpers LB/RB instead of L1/R1, it is the same pair.

Trigger-style accelerate on some pads feels better than a stick-forward throttle. Use whatever Roblox exposes in that session. The important part is analog steer, not which physical button says “gas.”

Mobile touch

ActionControl
SteerHandlebar
ForwardAccelerator
Reverse / brakeBrake
HandbrakeHandbrake icon
TurboTurbo can

The red handlebar only steers. It does not drive you forward. That split surprises keyboard players who expect a virtual WASD. Keep a thumb on the handlebar and the other on accelerator, then tap handbrake or turbo as separate icons. Do not rest a palm on the turbo can. Accidental boosts on mobile are the main reason phone racers look faster into a corner and slower out of it.

If your device is small, drop graphic quality in the Roblox menu until the icons stay readable. A prettier Radiator Springs is useless if the handbrake icon sits under your steering thumb. Landscape orientation gives the handlebar more travel. Portrait is a last resort.

Haptics, rumble, and the Roblox menu

Touch button feedback and controller rumble can fight your timing. The game points you at the Haptics toggle in the Roblox menu, not an in-experience slider. Open the Roblox menu, find Haptics, and turn it off if every turbo tap buzzes the next input. Turn it back on later if you like the feel. This is a platform setting, so it can follow you into other experiences; flip it per session if you care.

Haptics are not a driving aid. They do not tell you when a tire is sliding. Your camera and the sound of the engine are better tells.

Camera (C / L1)

Default chase cam is fine for Radiator Springs cruising. For racing, cycle C (or L1) until you can see both apex curbs and the car’s nose. A hood view that hides the next corner is a vanity angle. Bumper or slightly high chase is the usual compromise. Recenter your thinking after every camera change: a new view changes how early a turn looks, not how early you should turn.

On mobile, avoid pinch-zooming mid-race. Set the camera in the countdown, then leave it. On console, do not hold L1; tap it. Holding a bumper while you also need turbo is how you miss a boost window.

Turbo (Shift / X / turbo can)

Turbo is a burst. Worldwide Spies is not a game where you hold boost from lights out to the flag. Dumping Shift in a decreasing-radius corner is how you understeer into a fountain in Radiator Springs or a barrier in London. Build a three-step rhythm:

  1. Straight or exit: tap turbo.
  2. Braking zone: no turbo.
  3. Last straight of a lap: save one can if the UI shows you have it.

Training with Finn and Holley is the safest place to feel the surge without 19 other players. After that, practice on Radiator Springs before you take the same habit to Motor Speedway of the South, where a long oval makes turbo look free until you clip the apron.

Handbrake drift (Space / B / icon)

Handbrake is rotation, not an emergency stop. Tap it to swing the rear through a tight right, then get back on throttle so you do not stall mid-corner. Hold it and you will face the wall you were trying to avoid. Combine a short handbrake with a small steer input; yanking full lock plus a long Space is a spin.

Use it on London’s city corners, Porto Corsa’s harbor switchbacks, and the tighter Black Forest route. Skip it on Smasherville and Motor Speedway of the South unless you overshot and need a desperate rotate. Ovals want patience, not drama.

Lights (L / R1)

Lights are visibility. Night, tunnels, trees in Black Forest, and some indoor or shadowed Tokyo sections read better with lamps on. They do not change lap time by themselves. Toggle them in the formation lap so you are not hunting L while someone divebombs you.

A simple practice loop

Spend ten minutes in an empty or quiet server. Pick one racer so the camera stays familiar. Drive Radiator Springs using only throttle and steer. Add turbo on the two longest straights. Add a single handbrake tap on the tightest corner. Change camera once and live with it for five minutes. That loop teaches more than swapping characters in the Players Hub. When it feels boring, you are ready for How to Win Races and the Maps and Track Guide.

If you still spin after that loop, the problem is almost never the racer. It is holding turbo into the turn or treating handbrake like a brake pedal. Slow down until the line is clean, then put the speed back. Alpha physics can be odd on a patch week; confirm your binds survived the last GUI redesign from the Leap Forward update before you blame the track.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Worldwide Spies questions.

What are the PC controls in Worldwide Spies?

WASD to move, Shift for turbo, Space for handbrake, C for camera, and L for lights.

What are the console and mobile controls?

Console: stick to drive, X turbo, B handbrake, L1 camera, R1 lights. Mobile: handlebar to steer, accelerator, brake, handbrake icon, and the turbo can.

How do I turn off rumble or touch buzz?

Use the Haptics toggle in the Roblox menu. It is not an in-game garage setting.

Is a controller better than keyboard?

Analog steering on a controller is recommended for tight maps. Keyboard can still finish races if you tap steer instead of holding full lock.

When should I use turbo and handbrake?

Turbo on exits and straights. Handbrake as a short tap to rotate, not as a panic stop. Apply both on How to Win Races.
